SAN DIEGO - A family is mourning the death of a Mission Beach man who was found dead near a Southern California lake.
Jake Roberson had been missing since mid-January, and his disappearance was considered mysterious.
A few weeks ago, Roberson's abandoned SUV was found along Interstate 5. A note was found on the window saying he was looking for gas.
Recently, Roberson's pants and car keys were found near Pyramid Lake in Los Angeles County.
Speaking to 10News by phone from Ohio, his mother Sharon Roberson said a fisherman found her son's body.
"I'm not going to see him again, and that beautiful smile; and it's overwhelmingly sad," she said.
Roberson's mother said her son suffered from bipolar disorder and was off his medication. She said when that happens, he sometimes gets a spiritual connection with water, which could explain what happened to him.
"We all love him and we miss him to the moon and back," Roberson's mother said.
