SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An EMT fell asleep at the wheel early Wednesday morning, causing the ambulance he was driving to roll over and crash and injuring a fellow EMT.
The crash happened at about 4 a.m. near the intersection of Friars and Mission Gorge roads in the Grantville area.
An EMT said he was driving to a nearby Kaiser Permanente hospital when he fell asleep at the wheel, which led to the ambulance hitting a curb and flipping onto its side.
While the EMT driving was not hurt in the crash, a fellow EMT riding with a patient in the back of the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Authorities said the patient avoided serious injury because he was strapped to a gurney and was stabilized when the ambulance overturned.
The patient was headed to Kaiser for dialysis treatment when the crash occurred.
