2010 Chile tsunami surge damaged docks in SD

SAN DIEGO – Wednesday’s Chile earthquake caused a tsunami advisory for the California coast.
 
On Feb. 27, 2010, when an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile, the subsequent tsunami surge actually caused some minor damage to docks, boats and concrete pillars off north Shelter Island in the San Diego Bay, according to the state Department of Conservation. Following the March 11, 2011, earthquake in Japan, a boat sunk and there was some damage to a dock in south Shelter Island.
