EL CENTRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. a 1999 Ford was traveling eastbound on Interstate 8 hauling a heavily loaded trailer, according to California Highway Patrol. Nine people from Lakeside, including two adults and seven children, were inside the vehicle.

CHP reported that the Ford drifted off the roadway and onto the dirt shoulder west of Dunaway Rd.  In efforts to get the Ford and the trailer back onto the roadway, the driver turned left and right, trying to regain control.

Both the vehicle and the trailer overturned and rolled onto the roadway across the left lane of traffic.
Everyone inside was ejected. CHP reported no one was properly strapped in. According to CHP, the adult male, 42, and adult female, 31, both died on scene due to their injuries before CHP arrived.

The seven children were taken to local hospitals. Three were taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, one was taken to Riverside University Hospital, another one was taken to Loma Linda, and two were taken to Rady's Children's Hospital for treatment of various injuries.

The children range in age from 12-years-old to one-year-old.

It is unknown how fast the Ford was traveling when the accident occurred. The collision is currently under investigation.
