Melissa Mecija joined the 10News team in July 2010. She currently works as a 10News This Morning weekday anchor.
Melissa’s current reporting specialties include consumer issues, the AAPI community, as well as the San Diego Unified and Sweetwater Union High School Districts.
She has investigated consumer issues for San Diegans for several years and considers it one of her passions. If there is an issue or problem related to your money, contact her!
Previously, she worked on Team 10's investigative unit in addition to anchoring the weekend morning newscasts.
Melissa has served in numerous roles at 10News, including traffic/weather anchor and general assignment reporter.
She came to San Diego from KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, where she worked in her hometown of Orange County as a video journalist/web reporter.
Prior to that, Melissa worked at KSBY in the Central Coast. She covered several major wildfires and numerous high-profile stories, including the death of pop star Michael Jackson.
Melissa began her career at KYMA in El Centro, California/Yuma, Arizona. Some of her most memorable stories there include skydiving with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, covering visits by former President George W. Bush, exploring underground drug tunnels, and reporting on former President Gerald Ford's funeral services.
She has won regional EMMY awards for health science reporting and team coverage. Melissa has also received several honors from the San Diego Society of Professional Journalists and the San Diego Press Club.
Melissa graduated from UC Irvine with an honors degree in political science and a degree in psychology. She is an active member of the Asian American Journalist Association and enjoys getting involved in the local AAPI community.
