Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, and what better way to celebrate than grilling out? And for anyone that wants to up their skills, there’s Barbecue University in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Grill master Steve Raichlen teaches his students the tips and tricks of grilling just about everything over an open flame.
People come from all over the country to learn from Raichlen. Debra Rainey from Tennessee remembers the first time she attended Barbecue University.
“All I had was a little Weber gas grill that I knew how to do boneless skinless chicken breasts on, and maybe shrimp and that’s all,” she said
And now, she doesn’t know anything you can’t do on a grill.
According to Raichlen, here are a few tips any griller can use.
First, always keep the grill clean, hot and lubricated.
He also recommends putting meat on a wire rack after cooking, so they cool without getting soggy.
"Grilling is a high heat direct method a burger a steak chicken breast anything that cooks quickly. True BBQ is a low indirect method,” Raichlen said.
After four days of grilling, the Barbecue University class of 2019 graduated with grill master honors.
