SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - So you've got that new diploma in hand and you're ready to get to work. Should be easy, right?

Well, most graduates hope. But in San Diego County, the odds may be in their favor.

The San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos metropolitan area was ranked among the top areas in the country for college graduates to score a job, according to a study by ZipRecruiter.

Based on availability of entry-level college jobs and ratio of open entry-level college jobs to the number of applicants, the region was 12th among the top job markets that made the cut.

Locally, the best industry for recent graduates is the technology sector and software engineer came in as the top job.

The study found that the top industry in 11 cities is also the technology sector, followed by business, finance and insurance, and health care. The best job in tech is being a project manager.

Despite worries of a competitive job market, most graduates are feeling pretty comfortable in their employment prospects.

ZipRecruiter surveyed more than 2,000 job seekers registered on their site and discovered almost 80 percent of new graduates are optimistic they will find a job. Most respondents said growth potential is the most important consideration when searching for a new job, followed by pay, and benefits.
