SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The 10News Leadership Award goes to the Founder and CEO of the nonprofit group Active Valor, which pairs veterans with children of fallen heroes. Perry Yee is a former Navy SEAL. He understands the loss for families dealing with the death of a service member.
Cash Kasinger is a Gold Star Child. He was five years old when his father died from medical complications caused during deployment.
That’s where the non-profit, Active Valor came in. It paired Cash with Combat Veteran Sam Neuhauser.
The organization holds events several times a year. There are adventures, sports, activities and time with a veteran mentor. The veteran can not replace a parent…but can help bring joy back into the lives of children.
Sam visits Cash outside the Active Valor events now. Cash’s mother coordinates special days for the three of them.
It’s made a big difference for Cash, it’s given Sam a new purpose, and it’s kept Cash’s mother involved in the military family Learn more about Active Valor on the group's website.
They’re planning a fundraiser in March of 2020.
