SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Oceanside company is offering a different vantage point when it comes to checking out Christmas light displays this holiday season.
Going on right now until Jan. 1, pilot Kurt Dawson is flying his Robinson R44 helicopter high above the North County skies to give passengers an aerial perspective of different neighborhoods lit up for the holidays.
Dawson and his girlfriend, Danielle Mulvey, operate Waverider Helicopter Tours out of Oceanside Municipal Airport. In addition to the Christmas Lights Tour, the company also offers nine different tours along the San Diego coast.

Dawson told 10News he got the idea to do holiday light tours during a flight last year, which is when he started Waverider Helicopter Tours.
This year, Dawson said his company began advertising the holiday light tours just after Thanksgiving and, thanks to media coverage and word-of-mouth, the excursions have been a resounding success.
The 30-minute Christmas Lights Tour, which covers about 45 miles above cities like Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and Vista, costs $150 per person, with up to three passengers allowed per trip. Flight times are 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Dawson said because of the attention the tours have received, many of the times are being booked fast.
