SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Santee Lakes will become an angler’s delight this weekend as the preserve stocks the three lakes with trout.

Rainbow and Lightning Trout will be added to the lakes this week, according to Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve officials.

“This event is great for everyone, including families that want to spend some quality time together,” said Greg Even, event coordinator. “It’s also perfect for sport fishermen because there will be some trophy fish included in the stock.”

Prizes will be awarded to those who catch the five largest fish. Twenty trout will be tagged for prizes including fishing poles, tackle boxes, bicycles, camping gear, and free fishing passes.

Anyone who catches a trout three pounds or larger will be entered to win the Ultimate Angler Experience, including chairs, fishing permits, a rod, a cooler, and a reserved area for the 2020 Trout Opener.

The event is Jan. 11 and 12, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $6 vehicle fee at the gate. Adult fishing permits are $10; junior and senior permits are $6.
