(KGTV) — Imagineers designing California Adventure's upcoming "Avengers Campus" expansion want visitors to truly feel as though they're surrounded by heroes.
A simple way to do that would be to have a roster of Marvel characters walking around. But Imagineers are taking it a step further with the help of robotics.
Disneyland has released new footage of a robotic Spider-Man that will reportedly "swing" over guests at "Avengers Campus" this summer. The video features the animatronic Spider-Man practicing his in-air acrobatics in a "top secret" location.
In 2018, Disney revealed its Imagineers were hard at work bringing their animatronic robots to the next level with "Stuntronics" figures. The 90-pound figure that was teased was capable of performing complex aerial maneuvers and making real-time decisions in mid-air.
You can see a test video of the robot here.
Behind the stunts were a slew of sophisticated on-board sensors helping the robot decide how to move, Disney said.
"It knows when to tuck its knees to perform a somersault, when to pull its arms to twist, and even when to slow down its spin to make sure it sticks that perfect landing," Disney wrote in 2018.
It seems those efforts will be on full display when California Adventure debuts its Marvel-themed land.

The land is still under construction near the park's "Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout!" tower ride. But once open, guests will be able to enjoy Marvel-themed attractions, including web-slinging ride with Spider-Man, live shows with characters like Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Iron Man, and others, and delicious Ant-Man-themed eats at the Pym Test kitchen.
A Quinjet flight simulator ride taking passengers to Black Panther's home of Wakanda is being planned for the area's Phase Two expansion.
"Avengers Campus" is set to open in summer 2020 — complete with your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man swinging on rooftops.
