(KGTV) — One of the country's best hotels sits in an off-the-beaten-path area of North San Diego County's rolling hillsides.

U.S. News and World Report recently ranked where travelers can find the best hotels in the U.S., based on industry awards, and hotel and guest ratings. Snug in the county's Rancho Santa Fe area is the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa, which ranked ninth on the publication's list of U.S. hotels.

U.S. News also placed it as the fifth best U.S. resort and first in hotels or resorts for all of California.

"Rancho Valencia is a little off the beaten path. But that's why people love it," U.S. News writes of the resort. "Visitors are complimentary of the respectful, thoughtful staff while guest rooms stun for their aesthetic."

As you may have guessed, a stay at the opulent resort isn't cheap. One night's stay could set guests back anywhere from $500 to $900 a night, depending on when they book a stay.

Despite the sticker shock as, U.S. News points out, guests rave about the spacious suites and villas and sprawling 45 acres that make the resort feel almost like its own luxurious neighborhood nestled in an exclusive part of the county.

Among the resorts various amenities are fine dining options, two resort pools, kid-friendly services and activities, and resort rates to nearby golf courses. To see more of U.S. News' report on Rancho Valencia, click here.
