Love hurts: Price of a date in San Diego will cost you, study says

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — How much are you willing to drop on a date, San Diego?

Depends, right? A first date may not require all the bells and whistles, but an anniversary may be the time to go all out for your significant other.

According to a study by Match.com, Californians on average shell out to the tune of more than $220. The study looked at a date including dinner for two, a bottle of wine, and two movie tickets.

More than 5,000 people were surveyed by Match for the dating analysis.

But California wasn't the worst. New Yorkers dropped an average of $297 on one date. Dates in New Jersey were the next most expensive at $259 for a night out.

The cheapest night out went to South Dakota, where a date costs about $38, Match found. For the entire year of 2016, the study found the average American spent about $1,596 on dates.

When it comes to the price of a date, San Diegans don't have to drop hundreds.

There are plenty of attractions that won't run hundreds of dollars — if you don't want the date to do so.

Balboa Park boasts tons of free and low-cost fun in terms of sight-seeing and museums for dates. Many may consider it a better experience than sitting in a movie theater too.
