SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Many San Diegans may not be able to celebrate Mother's Day in person, but that doesn't mean there aren't other ways to connect this weekend.

Several virtual tools will help locals celebrate Mother's Day, from video chat to live streaming. And the technology gives moms and their children the chance to explore new places, pick up new skills, or simply talk and reminisce virtually.

We've put together some ideas on how to get creative and virtually connect with mom this Sunday:

Visit Carlsbad Flower Fields virtually

You can't take mom on a walk through Carlsbad's flower field's 100 acres of Ranunculus, but you can take a virutal tour. The Flower Fields is offering virtual tours of the fields, the fields posted on Facebook. Weekly tours are meant to provide those who had hoped to visit this spring with a look at the field's attractions and behind-the-scenes.

Pick up a brush for a virtual painting class

Liberty Station's Paint & Sip Studio is closed at the moment, so their painting lessons are going online! Sign up for virtual painting classes this weekend and even pickup your painting supplies from the studio before the class.

Walk through your mom's favorite recipe

There's no doubt that there have been meals throughout your life that have made you appreciate mom's home cooking. What better way to celebrate mom than walking through her favorite recipe together virtually. Set up a virtual chat in the kitchen and enjoy cooking together!

Take a virtual safari at the San Diego Zoo

You can't go to the San Diego Zoo right now, but you can still visit the animals! Behind the scenes videos are being shared by San Diego Zoo Global, giving viewers a peek at caregivers cleaning habitats, fixing special diets, providing enrichment activities, and specialty care to animals that may need it.

Enjoy some wine tasting online

Stay in and explore some of San Diego's wineries with an virtual wine tasting with mom! Order from local wineries, like San Pasqual Winery or Bernardo Winery or find another favorite location, and get together with mom via video chat for your own personal wine tasting.

Get into some trivia online

Who doesn't like a good game? Bust out your smartphones and log into a trivia game together. There are plenty of online trivia methods — like Jackbox, Psych!, or Heads Up — to test each other!

Have flowers delivered

Can't go wrong with having a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered to mom on Mother's Day! There are plenty of online services to choose from and even more types of flowers and arrangements to order to send mom's way.
