CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- We’ve all heard the saying, "If you do what you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life." Myles Mellor, a Carlsbad resident, is proof of this.

Chances are if you have ever done a crossword puzzle, Mellor wrote it, and he loves what he does.

“Everyday is some new thing that I’m creating,” said Mellor.

When his mother passed away, he began creating and writing crossword puzzles to help his father cope with the loss.

“He loved them. It really cheered him up,” Mellor said.

What started as a hobby has turned into over 16,000 puzzles, over 600 magazines and 17 years of crossword creation.

His path to success wasn’t always straightforward. Mellor faced rejection from many outlets before landing his first client.

“Everything broke loose. It was unbelievable,” Mellor said.

Mellor says, one of the many keys to his success, is his desire to make people happy, make life pleasant and have fun.

Below is a custom puzzle Mellor made for our 10News viewers. The theme is San Diego. Click here to see the answers.
