VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - On the heels of announcing a kid-friendly auditorium option, Cinépolis Vista is bringing another screening option to movie-goers - complete with wind and rain.
A new "4DX" auditorium was unveiled Thursday at the theater chain's Vista location, that will offer 3D imagery and augmented weather effects that mimic wind, rain, mist, fog, and more in unison with the picture onscreen.
The auditorium premier with a showing of the film "Kong: Skull Island."

4DX technology was introduced in 2009. The method uses a combination of fans installed in ceilings and behind seats, remote units to move seats, rain and mist effects, and even various scents related to the actions playing out during the film. The movie experience becomes a bit more of a synchronized thrill ride than a viewing.
The auditoriums are currently offered by other Cinépolis locations outside of the United States. Vista's 4DX auditorium option is one of two locations that have adopted the concept in the U.S.
"Cinépolis USA has thought about developing Cinépolis 4DX auditoriums in other U.S. theater locations, but no plans have yet been set," a spokesperson told 10News.
The move by the Mexico-based company occurs just as the theater introduced a child-centric auditorium with a jungle gym, slide, and bean bag chairs at it's Vista location.
