Preston Phillips is an Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter for San Diego's ABC affiliate, KGTV, 10News.
Preston co-anchors the weekend evening newscasts at 5:00pm, 6:00pm and 11:00pm.
For the past two years, Preston and his weekend team have won the Emmy Award for "Best Weekend Evening Newscast." In 2015, Preston received his 3rd Emmy nomination for "Best Anchor" and a nomination for breaking/spot news coverage, in which he provided LIVE, breaking news reports from the front lines of what became known as the May Firestorm.
Since June of 2014, Preston has provided in-depth investigative, breaking and exclusive news reports on the rise of ISIS and the terror group's impact on Middle Eastern Christians living in San Diego and on their families living in Iraq
In 2010, Preston was the first reporter to break the news on-air regarding the disappearance and massive search effort underway for a missing San Diego teen, that would turn out to be Chelsea King. Preston turned investigative and breaking news reports in the days leading up to and following her killer, John Gardner's arrest and sentencing.
In 2008, Preston traveled to Juarez, Mexico with a camera crew during the height of the cartel killings, in an effort to help free a wrongfully charged U.S. Army veteran facing a life sentence in the notorious Cereso prison for bringing guns and ammunition into Mexico. His effort was successful and Preston was credited by officials with the U.S. Consulate for saving his life.
In addition to anchoring the weekend evening newscasts, Preston also provides live, breaking news and investigative reports for the 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 11pm weekday newscasts and anchors breaking news in the 10News LIVE Center during the week as well. He also serves as the station's primary substitute weekday evening anchor and occasionally fills-in on weather.
Preston was born in Atlanta, Georgia and also lived in Chicago, Illinois for several years before moving to Southern California in the late 80's.
Preston has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Chapman University, where he majored in Broadcast Journalism.
Preston is very active in and around the San Diego community as a speaker and as a Master of Ceremonies for community events. Preston is passionate about news and passionate about helping others. Preston is a daily advocate for survivors of traumatic brain injury and children in need.
For years Preston has mentored men and women in and out of state prisons and jails.Preston and his wife have a son and daughter together.
