MANHATTAN — The promoter of a 2016 festival in the Bahamas that fell apart will be going to prison.
Billy McFarland, 26, was sentenced in federal court in Manhattan on Thursday. He was given a 6-year sentence.
McFarland told the judge he was "deeply sorry", and his family could be seen crying during the sentencing, PageSix reports.
The Fyre Festival had been promoted by notable celebrities and was promised to include top accommodations for attendees, who paid a lot of money to go and found unfinished sites when they arrived.
The festival never took place.
