(KGTV) -- Chula Vista native Mario Lopez, who co-starred with Dustin Diamond on the hit 1990s sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” was among the celebrities who posted tributes to the late actor on social media Monday.

The 44-year-old Diamond, who portrayed Samuel “Screech” Powers in the series, passed away Feb. 1. He was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Lopez, who played AC Slater on the show, posted a photo of himself with Diamond on Instagram and said: “Dustin, you will be missed my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted. Prayers for your family will continue on…”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who portrayed Zack Morris on the show, tweeted: "Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dustin Diamond, a true comedic genius. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Looking back at our time working together, I will miss those raw, brilliant sparks that only he was able to produce. A pie in your face, my comrade."
