“Juno” star Elliot Page has come out as transgender. The actor, 33, took to Twitter to post a statement.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot,” Page wrote. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
He went on to thank all those who have supported him throughout this journey, writing, “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

He also thanked those in the trans community for their courage, generosity and inspiration and promised to pay it forward writing, “I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”
Page also asked for patience and understanding as he navigates this major life change, nothing that his joy is “fragile” and that he also feels fear of the discrimination, hate and violence experienced by the transgender community.
“In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women,” he wrote.
Page ended the statement on a note of hope and determination.
“I love that I am trans,” he wrote. “And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence everyday: I see you, I love you and will do everything I can to change this world for the better. ”
Page is originally from Canada. He first broke through on the entertainment scene with roles in the CBC series “Pit Pony,” and went on to star in a number of movies and television shows, including “Juno,” “Inception, “X-Men” and “The Umbrella Academy.” He is married to Emma Portner, 26.
“Elliot Page has given us fantastic characters on-screen, and has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ people,” Nick Adams, GLAAD’s director of Transgender Media, said in a statement. “He will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people. All transgender people deserve the chance to be ourselves and to be accepted for who we are. We celebrate the remarkable Elliot Page today.”
