Weekend Anchor & Reporter | Beats: Border, Latino Communities, Marines and Coast Guard

Ciara Encinas joined the ABC 10News team in December 2021 as a multimedia journalist.

She joins ABC 10News after spending three and a half years reporting in her home state of Arizona, and she is beyond thrilled to call America’s Finest City home now.

Ciara has been covering the southern border for the past six years. She’s tracked the changes in migration trends and has even been the first to break border stories that later made national headlines. Ciara even follows migrants’ journeys inside local shelters.

Ciara has also covered the military her entire career. Not only has she told exciting stories that included a trip in the sky going faster than the speed of sound with the Blue Angels, but she’s also sat with military families to hear about the issues they face. Additionally, she's spent time with veterans learning about the highlights of their careers and the lasting medical impacts their service has caused.

Ciara also covered immigration and border security issues during her time at KYMA in Yuma and El Centro, where she also reported on presidential visits and city government issues. Her work there led to two Emmy wins.

She then spent a year and a half in Tucson at Scripps sister station KGUN 9. During her time there, she covered community issues, like the growing homeless crisis and how a TCE water contamination continues to impact Tucson families 40 years later.

Ciara is a proud graduate of the University of Arizona, where she was the first in her family to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

When she’s off the clock, Ciara is hiking the beautiful trails in San Diego, visiting coffee spots around town, and loving her pug, Fitz. She can’t wait to start visiting her family in Southern California and cheer on the Padres when baseball season rolls around.
