Matt Mendes is happy to call San Diego home. He joined the 10News team as a reporter in February 2014 and loves it here!

Since working at 10News, Matt has broken a number of major stories including the El Cajon doctor accused of taking numerous nude pictures of his patients and touching some of them inappropriately.

He also uncovered the bizarre stalking case involving an East County man and a Dartmouth College student. The story sparked a debate across the country on whether students should be allowed to carry guns on college campuses.

Before coming to 10News, Matt spent two years as a reporter at KOLD-TV in Tucson, Ariz. He was one in a handful of witnesses chosen to watch the execution of convicted killer, Edward Schad.

Matt was also evening anchor at KIEM-TV in Eureka, Calif. There, he anchored the breaking news coverage of the 2011 tsunami.

Matt graduated from Fresno State University with a bachelors degree in mass communication and journalism, with a minor in criminology. During college, he worked as a 9-1-1 dispatcher at the Fresno Co. Sheriff's Office.

When Matt isn't pounding the pavement looking for stories, he enjoys jogging, trying new restaurants and breweries.

This summer, Matt is stepping out of his comfort zone and joining his friend, Aaron on a 9-day mission trip to Haiti. He is looking forward to what he hopes will become an experience of a lifetime!
