10News honors Debra Chapman for organizing Racers Against Drugs (R.A.D.) that is a program designed for schools and youth organizations to encourage a drug free life.
R.A.D. is a non-profit organization that uses race cars and auto racing as a means to reach out to kids. The program travels to numerous schools and events to speak and help influence adults and children about how to make the right decisions in life and how to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
Chapman coordinates the R.A.D. members to bring their race cars to local schools and perform a demonstration on the cars engines and speed. She has worked relentlessly to get assemblies scheduled so that many San Diego children can participate. Chapman has gone above and beyond in the past years by reaching out to over 20,000 kids with a positive message, Reaching for Dreams Instead of Drugs.
In addition to her involvement with R.A.D., Chapman also volunteers at the Barona Speedway to recruit more role model racers who can help make a difference in the lives of children. Debra and her husband have also overcome barriers as they strived to save the organization from closing its doors many years. She and many others have worked hard to maintain a professional positive influence and present within the community. Even though she works 50 to 60 hours a week at her regular job, Chapman continues to dedicate countless hours and monetary donations to the Racers Against Drugs program.
