SAN DIEGO -- Three longtime members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Wednesday were celebrating their comfortable re-elections. Supervisor Greg Cox easily defeated imaging technician Howard Johnson's 26 percent to hold onto the District 1 seat, representing much of the South Bay and San Diego's beach communities. Cox has held the seat since 1995. In District 2, Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who has been in office 16 years, defeated archaeologist Rudy Reyes, who was badly burned during 2003's Cedar Fire while trying to flee his Wildcat Canyon home.
The district includes much of San Diego's East County, including Poway, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Santee, parts of San Diego, Campo, Jacumba, Jamul, Julian, Lakeside and Spring Valley. In District 3, Supervisor Pam Slater-Price, who also has held her seat 16 years, defeated engineer John Van Doorn. The district includes Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, Solana Beach, Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch and Tierrasanta. No incumbent supervisor in San Diego County has lost a re-election bid in more than two decades.
