A blaze gutted a City Heights apartment Wednesday afternoon and left two firefighters with minor injuries.

Flames began tearing through the unoccupied rental residence in the 3800 block of Marlborough Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. It took about 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Two crew members suffered "very minor" burns while dousing the blaze, which caused slight smoke damage to a second-floor apartment in the seven-unit complex, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Nine residents -- two women and seven children -- were displaced from the two apartments, Luque said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
