A young soldier who just returned home from deployment remains in critical condition at Sharp Memorial hospital following a horrible crash last Thursday in Lakeside.
Chase Simmons has served in the Army for the past year-and-a-half. His family says he had just returned home two weeks ago from a deployment in South Korea.
10News spoke to his mother, Vicki Simmons, outside the hospital Saturday.
She says her 22-year-old son, Chase, is now battling for his life.
His mother tells us Chase was on his way home to Ramona on Thursday when his Suzuki SUV got into a horrible crash with a dump truck near Posthill Road on State Route 67.
The CHP says it doesn’t appear drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Chopper the Biker Dog sat on Chase’s hospital bed during a visit Friday. Chopper’s owner says the family asked them to visit Chase in the hospital.
The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt.
