Soldier critically injured in Lakeside crash

Posted

A young soldier who just returned home from deployment remains in critical condition at Sharp Memorial hospital following a horrible crash last Thursday in Lakeside.

Chase Simmons has served in the Army for the past year-and-a-half. His family says he had just returned home two weeks ago from a deployment in South Korea.

10News spoke to his mother, Vicki Simmons, outside the hospital Saturday.

She says her 22-year-old son, Chase, is now battling for his life.

His mother tells us Chase was on his way home to Ramona on Thursday when his Suzuki SUV got into a horrible crash with a dump truck near Posthill Road on State Route 67.

The CHP says it doesn’t appear drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Chopper the Biker Dog sat on Chase’s hospital bed during a visit Friday.  Chopper’s owner says the family asked them to visit Chase in the hospital.

The driver of the truck wasn’t hurt.
