Woman hit, killed in Oceanside hit-and-run crash

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Police are searching for the driver of a car that struck and killed a woman as she crossed an Oceanside street Sunday night.

According to Oceanside police, the hit-and-run collision happened just before 8 p.m. in the 1400 block of Mission Avenue.

Witnesses told police the unidentified woman was crossing the road when a 1998 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Mission Avenue at 70-80 mph struck her. The woman died at the scene, according to police, and the car drove away without stopping onto northbound Interstate 5.

Police said a witness followed the Civic as it exited onto state Route 76. The Civic was last seen in the area of Loretta Street.

The driver of the Civic is white or Hispanic, had a beard and was wearing a baseball cap. The Civic is silver and has California license plate number 7HJW533.
