VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A broken water main caused a sinkhole to form on a Vista street, prompting crews to block off a stretch of the roadway and impacting water service in the immediate area.
The main break was reported just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Mar Vista Drive near Phillips Street. The flow of about 260,000 gallons of water destroyed parts of the street.
10News learned a pipe and main were damaged and needed to be replaced. The cause of the break is under investigation.
The main break forced crews to shut off water, leaving about 51 nearby homes and businesses without service into the mid-morning hours.
Water service was eventually restored before 10 a.m.
Mar Vista Drive will be shut down from South Santa Fe Avenue to Avocado Avenue for the rest of the day.
