The discovery of a suspicious item at Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport Wednesday morning prompted airport officials to temporarily shut down a terminal.
Sky Harbor's Terminal 4 was deemed "restricted" shortly after 6:30 a.m. after a suspicious item was found. Airport officials closed at least two checkpoints while authorities investigated the item.
An American Airlines spokesperson said flights departing for Phoenix were held while police investigated the item.
Ticket counters for Southwest Airlines and American Airlines were also shut down for more than an hour.
During the course of the investigation, airport officials said flight delays were expected. Travelers were advised to check their flight status with their airline before arriving at the airport.
After nearly two hours, airport officials lifted all restrictions.
It is unclear what the item in question was.
