SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego-based Navy SEAL was arrested in San Diego this month on child pornography charges.
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Gregory Kyle Seerden, 31, was arrested on April 3 in San Diego on charges including production of child pornography, transportation of child pornography, and possession of child pornography, according to court documents.
The allegations were brought to light after NCIS investigators in Virginia said the materials were located on his cell phone during an unrelated sexual assault investigation from Jan. 21 in Virginia Beach, in which no charges have been filed.
U.S. Marshals are reportedly in the process of bringing Seerden back to Virginia to face the charges against him, according to The Virginia-Pilot.
On Feb. 3, officials said they began analyzing Seerden's cell phone, according to court documents. During the digital forensic examination, investigators located suspected pornographic images involving prepubescent children.
A U.S. Magistrate judge in March 2017 authorized a search warrant permitting further investigation of the cell phone.
Investigators said more than 70 images and multiple videos of child pornography were found, including materials created on the cell phone. A photograph was also found of Seerden sitting on a bed with two, unknown minor females and two unknown minor males.
Investigators said one of the females seen in the photo with Seerden is the same female in another video created on the phone.
Based on the materials found, NCIS investigators said they believe there is probable cause to charge Seerden.
