SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Regina Johnson fell apart talking about her 14-year-old daughter, Aliya.

"Aliah was the love of my life not only was she the love of my life she was my life when I lost her I lost everything," Johnson said in a downtown courtroom Tuesday.

Police say Johnson ambushed her daughter and husband, Ruben, in their condo in May 2012, shooting both of them and then writing this note in lipstick saying in part - "this is your fault."

But Johnson tells a different story, saying her husband shot their daughter in an argument over missing school.

"He killed my daughter it was his daughter too but he killed her," Johnson said.

Johnson says she endured years of abuse and killed in self-defense.

"When he put the gun down I panicked if I didn't pick up the gun he may try to kill me picked up the gun and shot him," Johnson said.

Prosecutors argue Johnson struggled with severe paranoia and depression and was furious over her husband's infidelity - a notion Johnson laughed off.

"If I was angry I would have shot him a long time ago," Johnson said.

Johnson stayed in the home for three days with the bodies before police came.
