SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Several people in Pacific Beach want to know why their water bills spiked by hundreds of dollars.
LouAnne Marion received a water bill close to $400. She says her average bill is $70.
“This is an outrageous bill,” Marion said. “I have a 410 square foot studio apartment. I live alone. I did nothing with the water, and I’m out of town quite often.”
Several other people in PB started spouting off about their recent bills on social media.
One woman told 10News that her bill was well over $900, a jump of several hundred dollars. Another woman says the water company sent her a bill for $471, which is double her average.
None of them got an explanation from their water companies.
“They said for me to pay the bill by August 1st,” Marion said. “They would look into it, but I needed to pay the bill.”
10News asked the city whether they’ve received complaints about water bills or meters. A spokesman sent the following statement:
"The Public Utilities Department has not received inquiries from customers in the Pacific Beach community about higher than usual bills nor water meter issues. If customers believe an error has occurred in their billing, we encourage them to contact a customer service representative by calling 619-515-3500, so we can work toward a resolution."
