One man is dead and a woman has major injuries after a motorcycle accident on the 52 West between Convoy Street and the 805 Monday night in Kearny Mesa.
The pair were riding a motorcycle when the bike struck a Honda Civic, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Civic was going 55 mph at the time of the crash, the motorcycle was going around 73 mph.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man, and his passenger, a woman in her mid-forties, were both thrown from the bike on impact. Shortly after the crash the motorcycle was struck by a Hyundai sedan and knocked into the shoulder where it burst into flames.
When CHP arrived, both the motorcycle driver and his passenger were on the road. The Driver was found dead at the scene, his passenger was taken to Scripps Memorial with major injuries.
There were no injuries to the people in the cars involved.
