Previous statements from the department indicate that one of the officers is also a juvenile service team officer.
According to a police statement released Monday, the two officers arrived at the front parking lot of the school shortly after 3:27 a.m. on Saturday after a 911 call was placed to request police check the welfare of a 15-year-old male juvenile standing in front of Torrey Pines High School on Del Mar Heights Road. The caller, police say, had no weapons
However, when the police officers got out of their patrol cars, the student pulled out a BB gun that was concealed in his waistband and pointed it at one of the officers, according to the police.
Both officers fired their weapons striking the boy numerous times.
He was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital and was pronounced dead.
