SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating a suspicious death surrounding the discovery of a man on fire in a Mission Bay Park field.
An off-duty California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer spotted the man on fire while driving alongside the field near 5200 Pacific Highway at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, San Diego Police (SDPD) said.
The CHP officer stopped to try and administer first aid and San Diego Fire-Rescue responded as well. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has not been identified.
San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team and SDPD homicide detectives are investigating the cause of the fire and the scene.
