DANA POINT, Calif. (KGTV) - Nine children were hurt Wednesday when a van crashed into a eucalyptus tree in Dana Point.

The crash happened at Dana Point Harbor Drive and Cove Road about 3:45 p.m. The intersection is near popular parks and hiking trails.

Five of the children suffered traumatic injuries and were taken to Mission Hospital. Four other young victims were slightly hurt and their parents picked them up, according to Orange County Fire Authority officials. The van's driver was not injured.

The injured children are between 9 and 12 years old, officials said.

The van was pulling a trailer which appeared to be carrying surfboards.

There was no word on where the van was going or what caused the crash.
