Neighbors frustrated by drones in air space

Posted

In the skies above Chateau Drive in Clairemont, the sound of planes from nearby Montgomery Field is hardly new.

But on a recent afternoon, while Muriel was reading in her backyard, the loud buzz she heard while reading a book in her backyard didn't come from any plane.

The next day, Muriel believe she found the source of the buzz.

Right there, stuck in her roof, a 4-rotor drone.

A day later, Muriel got a call from a neighbor a few doors down just before 10 at night.

“She told me to come out and look, because there was an even larger drone outside her house,” said Muriel.

Muriel’s home is about 3.7 miles from Montgomery Field.

According to federal regulations, drones can't be flown within 5 miles of an airport, unless the operator notifies the airport.

We're told there are 3 to 5 such notifications every week at Montgomery Field.
