CARLSBAD, Calif. - Police are looking for a suspect who stabbed a man outside a Carlsbad restaurant Wednesday night.
The stabbing occurred at around 8:45 p.m. outside a Pizza Port in the 500 block of Carlsbad Village Drive, near Tyler and Roosevelt streets.
Carlsbad police said officers responded to reports of a disturbance and found a 26-year-old security guard with multiple stab wounds in a parking lot behind Pizza Port. He was taken to Scripps Medical Center in La Jolla with minor injuries.
Police have not confirmed reports that those involved in the altercation were kicked out of the restaurant. Witnesses told police that the victim was stabbed several times while in an altercation with multiple people.
"It seemed like he was still able to stand upright, answer anything that needed to be answered," a witness told 10News regarding the victim. "But, yeah, it was totally out of the blue, something we weren't expecting tonight."
"For this to happen here is outrageous," another one witness told 10News. "It was like a bunch of little, young kids and then the security guard was trying to get these guys to leave or whatever and they stabbed him."
It was not clear if there was more than one suspect, and no suspect descriptions were released by police.
Witnesses said at least 5 people were involved.
People who live and work nearby were shocked by the violence.
"I feel like Carlsbad, everybody knows each other. It's small, it's sweet and kind. Usually there's never violence, it's kind of crazy," said Courtney Campbell, who works at a hair salon near the restaurant.
Anyone with cellphone video of the fight is asked to come forward and call Carlsbad police at 760-931-2139. It's unclear if surveillance cameras on the building captured anything.
No one from Pizza Port would comment.
