OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Police are searching for two people accused in a possible gang-related shooting that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man near the Oceanside Pier.
Oceanside police said the fatal shooting occurred near the Pier, in the 200 block of N. The Strand, just before 7:20 p.m. Thursday.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire arrived to find a Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound near the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre. He died from his injuries a short time later.
Police said they are searching for two people in connection with the killing -- a white male in his 20s and a Hispanic male in his 20s. No other information on the suspects was immediately available.
Several people in the area told 10News they heard shots, and others headed toward the pier after they heard the commotion from two blocks away at the Thursday night sunset market.
"We were listening to music, having something to eat and we noticed helicopters circling around," said Annette Zepeda. "Later, we were wondering what that was all about, and we walked down to the pier and found out there was a shooting. I live up the street."
Zepeda said the situation is scary for many reasons. One being that she walks along the pier almost every night and could have been there when it happened.
Several witnesses were taken to Oceanside police headquarters to give statements.
