Man hit by train in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a train in Carlsbad, according to sheriff's officials.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said the pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak train just before 6 p.m. Sunday while he was on a track near the Carlsbad Village Station (2775 State Street).

Sheriff's officials said the man was hit by a northbound train traveling at about 87 mph. There is no immediate word as to how the man ended up on the track.

10News learned the injured man suffered major injuries to his arms and legs. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where his condition remains unknown.
