Marine killed in Camp Pendleton accident identified

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV)--The U.S. Marine Corps. announced Saturday the death of Lance Cpl. Cody J. Haley during an accident on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Friday.

Details about the fatal accident were not made available by officials, who said they were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Haley, 20, was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.

The Marine was from Hardin, Iowa and deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in March 2016.

"We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of a member of the Marine Corps family, and we will do all we can to comfort the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased," a USMC press release stated.

  • National Defense Service medal
  • Global War on Terrorism Service medal
  • Sea Service Deployment ribbon
