SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Lyft driver was struck and killed on State Route 94 by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday morning after pulling over to help one of his sick passengers.
The incident happened at 1:12 a.m. in the eastbound lanes between the 25th and 28th Avenue exit ramps, according to California Highway Patrol.
The Lyft driver was transporting three women who were out drinking Friday night when one of them reported she was feeling sick.
The driver pulled over on the right shoulder of SR-94 and stepped out of the car to help the woman. His red Kia was struck from behind, killing the Lyft driver. All three passengers were still inside the car when officers arrived at the scene.
The suspect vehicle fled the crash but was located down the freeway embankment. The occupants inside the suspect vehicle fled the scene, according to CHP.
One or both of he occupants were apprehended by CHP officers with the help of the San Diego Police Department's ABLE helicopter at 28th and "G" Streets.
The thee female passengers were transported for their injuries, one to Mercy and two to UCSD. According to CHP, the women had been out drinking Friday night.
CHP shut down all eastbound traffic for about an hour.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call authorities.
