OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — A fire erupted at an auto salvage yard in the South Bay late Friday, pouring thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.
The fire broke out in the auto yard sometime just after 5:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Heritage Rd. in Otay Mesa, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. Crews with Cal Fire, National City, Imperial Beach, and Chula Vista fire departments were all assisting in the fire fight.
It took about 90 minutes for crews to knock down the bulk of the blaze. There were no immediate reports of injuries or evacuations.
At least two businesses were damaged by the fire.
The smoke could be seen from miles away, with 10News viewers sending in photos of the tower of smoke in the distance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters remained on scene much of the evening Friday to make sure the fire was out.
