EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire at a metal plant led to a hazardous materials emergency Thursday near Gillespie Field in El Cajon.
The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. at Precision Metals Products on Bradley Avenue, Heartland firefighters told 10News.
Crews shut down a block of the street for their investigation.
An employee said a truck was leaving the property when a fire broke out in its trailer. Other employees helped the driver disengage the trailer.
Witnesses reported a plume of smoke above the neighborhood, along with a strange smell.
There was no immediate word on type of hazardous material was burned, or what started the fire.
