SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A car burst into flames on a North County freeway Thursday morning, but no injuries were reported.

The incident happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 15 near Deer Springs Road, just north of Escondido, the California Highway Patrol said.

There is no immediate word on what caused the fire, but all occupants were able to safely exit the vehicle after pulling over on the right shoulder.

Responding firefighters were able to douse the flames, but the car was completely destroyed.

Traffic was backed up for at least 30 minutes due to the fire response.
