SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of residents were evacuated early Friday morning after a fire burned several vehicles in a University City apartment’s parking area.
The fire was reported at around 3:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Lebon Drive, off Nobel Drive, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials.
Responding firefighters arrived to find a car on fire in the apartment’s ground-level parking area. The fire’s proximity to apartment units forced dozens of residents to leave their homes.
The flames spread to other nearby vehicles before crews put the fire out 10 minutes later.
No injuries were reported, but one car was completely destroyed by the blaze and at least three others suffered some kind of damage.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes shortly before 4:15 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, with SDFRD's Metro Arson Strike Team looking to see if it was started intentionally.
