LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A family rushed to escape a fire that tore through their Lemon Grove home Tuesday night, but one of their five dogs did not survive.

The fire erupted in the garage of a home in the 3400 Golden View Terrace at around 9:30 p.m., according to fire officials.

As the fire spread, a mother gathered her four children and a dog, and fled from the house with the help from some neighbors. However, four other dogs were still inside.

Responding firefighters put out the flames, but not before the blaze completely destroyed the garage.

Firefighters were able to rescue three dogs from the home, but a fourth dog was reported dead.

“The main thing is we got out and that we’re safe … my neighbors came over. They’re awesome,” the mother told 10News.

While crews investigate the cause of the fire, the mother said she believed the fire may have been sparked by the dryer in the garage.
