CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver dressed as Santa Claus made Chula Vista police’s naughty list after he allegedly hit several parked vehicles and then ran away from the scene.
Police were called to MacKenzie Creek Road, near Mount Miguel Road, at around 1:30 a.m. Monday in response to reports of a Subaru Crosstrek hitting some vehicles parked on the street and a person injured on the roadway.
Witnesses told responding officers that they saw a driver dressed as Santa ditch his car after the crashes, leaving behind an injured passenger who was apparently ejected from the Crosstrek onto the street.
The driver ran away but left parts of his Santa costume and his ID inside the Crosstrek.
One witness told 10News, “He was fully dressed as Santa Claus and I saw him hop out of the vehicle and I saw him run away … like ‘Bad Santa,’ you know?”
Using the information from his ID, police tracked down the driver at his home and took him into custody on unspecified charges.
10News learned the driver was going to be evaluated for a possible DUI.
The passenger who was ejected was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
