The internet has a lot of free time on its hands.
So Friday, when President Donald Trump met German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the first time, the internet's political intrigue kicked in, with all eyes on the meeting.
While the two discussed many important issues of national and global importance, Twitter seemed to latch on to one moment between the leaders when reporters requested the two share a handshake.
To reporters' pleas, Pres. Trump sat smiling, not abiding. Chancellor Merkel, while seeming to motion if he would like a handshake, also sat smiling.
No handshake. And then Twitter went wild.
Here's the moment in question:
Merkel asks Trump: “Do you want to have a handshake?”
The U.S. president did not respond.https://t.co/dgLHkN1H7o pic.twitter.com/ChonvrLITV— POLITICO (@politico) March 17, 2017
And it didn't take long for Twitter:

Others were also just as quick to discredit the sensation as "#FakeNews" making the rounds.

To be absolutely fair, Merkel and Trump shared a handshake as the German leader arrived at the White House and during a news conference, as video above shows. But the awkward moment in the same room that preisdent has embraced other leaders recently perplexed reporters.
