NATIONAL CITY, Calif. - Hundreds of South Bay school children are seeing things a lot clearer this week thanks to a nonprofit and community groups.

International nonprofit OneSight wrapped up a weeklong visit Friday in which the organization conducted free exams and gave out free eyeglasses to 1,600 elementary school students.

OneSight teamed with the city of National City, the National City Lions Club and the National Elementary School District to host this year's event.

National City Mayor Ron Morrison said a lot of the children don’t even realize they don’t see well.

"We just found out that they don't really have sight beyond four feet," said Morrison.

"I'm so happy that we can help. It's kind of gratifying to be honest with you, to see them when they put glasses on," said Brian Clapper of the local Lions Club.

OneSight said the glasses help children excel in school and boosts their self-confidence.
